Frequently Asked Questions for VANTAGE STAR CARS

How is Vantage Star cars different to other film car agencies?

- VSC does not own its own cars that we give preference to. We only work to find opportunities for cars owned by our members (you).

- VSC is always proactively looking for opportunities for our members cars. We are constantly marketing to production companies, advertising agents, magazine editors (including car magazines), music video makers and photographers so they consider using our members cars first. We don't just wait for production companies to come to us.

- VSC is a national directory, this means that no matter where a job comes up we can supply them with the right car. This also increases greatly the chances of your car being used.

- VSC catalogue is online meaning that producers are able to view your car in detail not just get a vague description over the phone. Each member's car will have it's own webpage, enabling us to direct producers straight to your car. The webpage is also useful for the member to show friends and fellow car lovers what your car looks like.

Who will drive my car?

Where a car will be driven the production company must specify the driver/s, a rough estimate on the amount of kilometres they will drive and the type of road they will drive on. Drivers details and experience must be given to VSF. A copy will be given to the owner for approval before production commences. In most cases and where possible we allow the cars are driven by the owner, this means the car will be in good hands and the owner has the opportunity to be involved in the production.

Can I say no to a job?

Of course, it is your car. If you don’t want your used in a shoot we offer, you can say so when you are told the production companies brief. Once production commences you will be unable to withdraw your car unless they are using it in a way that was not advised.

Can I specify what my car can be used for?

Yes, at the time of joining VSC you can specify what you do and don’t want your car used for. You also have the option to say ‘No’ when a job is offered to you / your car if you don’t want it used for that job.

How much will I get paid?

Payment varies from job to job and also on the insured value of your car. In some case it might only be a few hundred for a small job or alternately a big job could net you THOUSANDS! It is VSC’s best interests to get you the best rate possible for the hire of your car.

What if there is already a car like mine in the VSC catalogue?

Please don’t let this be a deterrent. Most productions require a few cars at least, sometimes a few of the same type. Also, you must consider that the other cars my not always be available or are in a different area to yours. We need ALL cars and lots of them to fill the many varied jobs we get!

Does Vantage Star Cars make money from my car?

VSC is a business like any other, we need to pay wages and rent each week. As well as the small one off membership fee you pay to have your car listed we also charge a small booking fee for each job we book, most of the money for the hire of your car will end up in your hands!!. The more bookings we get the better for us and YOU!!!

My car is not in a major capital city, is it really worth being in VSC catalogue?

How long will they need my car?

Each job is different, sometimes your car maybe required for a few hours, other times it could be months. Either way, you will be paid well for the time they have your car.

What should I do for transport when my car is being used?

This is up to you. Not many production companies will supply you with a car while they have yours. You may need to borrow a car or hire one. The cost of the hire will be FAR less than what you are being paid for the use of your car.

Can I go along with my car when they are filming?

YES! Pproductions are fine with you being present while they feature your car. In fact, it is better for you to be there as know one knows the features of your car better than you. They will ask that you don’t get in the way of production.

Will they modify my car?

There has been odd cases where production companies have wanted to modify the look of a car. Often it is paint or panels that are modified. It is up to you whether you want your car to be modified, you can refuse at the time of booking. In some cases owners love the idea of having someone modify their car. The production company pays for all modifications.

Who pays for petrol?

We ask that your car is supplied to the production with a full tank of petrol, once they have finished, they must fill your car back up. This will mean that they pay for any petrol they use.

What happens if my car gets damaged?

VSC will NOT permit a production company to hire your car without proper insurance. If in the very off chance your car is damaged or written off while in the production company’s care your car will be professionally repaired or replaced.

What happens if my car need repairs?

If your car has an existing problem, damage or defect that will not be repaired unless specified by the production company before the hiring. If the car needs repairs during or after the hire due to misuse by the hire company they will pay.

What if my car is stolen?

Very, very unlikely but if it were to happen then the production companies insurance would cover the replacement cost. Cars are kept in secure areas when not in use.

What sort of care do they take?

Production companies understand that you car is your pride and joy. They will do everything they can to make sure it is VERY well looked after.  

Who looks after my car?

A vehicle co-ordinator is on location at all productions where the car is driven or is in a scene where a car is driven. Their job is to look after your car.

How does VSC make sure the people who hire my car are genuine?

VSC has worked with many production companies in the past and we know they are fine. Any new enquires will be checked carefully before any booking is considered. Checks will include references, previous clients and industry searches. VSC will make sure no ‘joy riders’ are booking your car.

Will my details be displayed in the catalogue?

The catalogue will feature photos of your car, a basic location (eg- Sydney), make, model and any hiring guidelines you specify. None of your  personal details will be listed. Number plated will also be 'blacked' out in photos.

Will my personal details be safe?

VSC has a very solid policy on privacy of our members and and their cars. NO INFORMATION WILL BE GIVEN TO OR ON SOLD TO THIRD PARTIES. No private information will be accessible to the general public. Information regarding your car and you are stored in a secure area separate from our offices. This is done so that visitors and potential thieves will not be able to find or access your information. No personal information is stored online.

My car is far from showroom condition, does that matter?

No, often producers aren’t looking for “as new or better” cars. They may just be looking for a car from a certain era or style. They may also be looking for the ‘used’ look. If your car is in perfect condition this can work in your favor too! Either way your car could be the one producers are looking for.

Does my car need to be registered?

Usually it won’t matter as filming is often on a closed set. It will only be an issue if the car is to be taken on a public road during transportation.

Who pays for transport of my car to a location?

In most cases if the production is near (under 100km) to where your car is kept then you will be required to deliver it to the specified site unless arrangements are made prior. If there is more distance involved the production company will cover costs of transportation or extra driving.

Does it cost money to join VANTAGE STAR CARS?

We do charge a small one off fee of $25 per car that is signed on. This fee goes towards us making YOUR CAR'S VERY OWN WEBPAGE and us regularly marketing your car to ALL major film makers, production companies, advertisers and magazines for years to come. (If you have more than one of your own cars you want to sign on we offer a discount)

Can I withdraw my car from VSC?

Sure, if you no longer want your car listed we will take if of the catalogue. Unfortunately we do not give refunds.

Is my membership to VSC transferable?

Your membership is only vaild while you own the car.

What if I modify my car, can I send new details and pics?

Yes, please do. We need our pictures to be up to date. If changes are very often we may need to charge a small fee for the cost of redoing our catalogue and your cars webpage. Usually there is no charge for this service.

What do you need from me to sign my car up?

You will need to supply us with up to 5 photos of your car. Photos should be 72dpi and no wider than 30cm. Ideally we need photos form the front angle, back angle, interior and side view. See examples below- (we need the photos to be at least three times the size of these ones!)-

You will also need a STAR CARS DETAILS FORM from us. Send us an email by clicking on the button below or giving the office a call during office hours - 02 9913 9596 to request a Star Cars Details Form. Please say you want a Star Cars Form in the email.

Note - if you have webmail (eg hotmail or yahoo) you will need to copy starcars(at)vantagemanagement.com.au into the address section of your email, replace (at) with @.
