Why Should I list my Boat with Vantage Star Boats?
- Vantage Management has been involved in the film and television industry for over 10 years, working with many of Australia's top production companies.
- Vantage Star Boats is the ONLY Boat agency for TV and Film in Australia. Producers are coming to us when they BOATS!
- VSB does not own its own BOATs that we give preference to. We only work to find opportunities for our members (you) BOATs.
- VSB is always proactively looking for opportunities for our members BOATs. We are constantly marketing to production companies, advertising agents, magazine editors (including BOAT magazines), music video makers and photographers so they consider using our members BOATs first. We don't just wait for production companies to come to us.
- VSB is a national directory, this means that no matter where a job comes up we can supply them with the right BOAT. This also increases greatly the chances of your BOAT being used as we hear about most productions that require BOATs.
- VSB catalogue will be online meaning that producers will be able to view your BOAT in detail not just get a vague description over the phone. Each member's BOAT will have it's own webpage, enabling us to direct producers straight to your BOAT. The webpage is also useful for the member to show friends and fell BOAT lovers what your BOAT looks like.
- Previously producers had to ring around marinas, look through magazines and try to contact the boat owners. VANTAGE STAR BOATS will take away this 'hunting' freeing up time for producers and offering a professional service. This is of HUGE value to a busy producer.

Who will drive my BOAT?
Where a BOAT will be driven the production company must specify the driver/s, a rough estimate on the amount of kilometers they will drive and the type of road they will drive on. Drivers details and experience must be given to VSB. A copy will be given to the owner for approval before production commences.
Can I say no?
Of course, it is your BOAT. If you don’t want it used you can say so when you see the production companies brief. Once production commences you will be unable to withdraw your BOAT unless they are using it in a way that was not advised.
Can I specify what my BOAT can be used for?
Yes, at the time of joining VSB you can specify what you do and don’t want your BOAT used for. You also have the option to say ‘No’ when a job is offered to you / your BOAT if you don’t want it used for that job.
How much will I get paid?
As each job varies so much we do not have flat rates for boat hire. The fee is decided on a case by case basis. We work with you (the boat owner) and the production company budget to come up with a fee everyone is happy with.
What if there is already a BOAT like mine in the VSB catalogue?
Please don’t let this be a deterrent. Most productions require a few BOATs at least, sometimes a few of the same type. Also, you must consider that the other BOATs my not always be available or are in a different area to yours. We need ALL BOATs and lots of them!
Does Vantage Star BOATs make money from my BOAT?
VSB is a business like any other, we need to pay wages and rent each week. As well as the small one off admin charge you pay to have your BOAT listed we also charge a small booking fee (percentage) for each job we book, most of the money (80%) for the hire of your BOAT will end up in your hands!!. The more bookings we get the better for us and YOU!!!
My BOAT is not in a major capital city, is it really worth being in VSB catalogue?
Absolutely!! Production happens all over this great country of ours, in fact most productions are outside of the cities, maybe in your area? Also, if a production company really wants your BOAT, they will be happy to pay to get it to their location.
How long will they need my BOAT?
Each job is different, sometimes your BOAT maybe required for a few hours, other times it could be months. Either way, you will be paid well for the time they have your BOAT.
Can I go along with my BOAT when they are filming?
Most productions are fine with you being present while they feature your BOAT. You will not be paid any extra for attending though. In some cases the productions will let you be involved as the driver or an extra.
Will they modify my BOAT?
Very unlikely, however there has been odd cases where production companies have wanted to modify the look of a BOAT. Often it is paint or removable objects that are modified. It is up to you whether you want your BOAT to be modified, you can refuse at the time of booking. In some cases owners love the idea of having someone modify their BOAT. The production company pays for all modifications.
Who pays for petrol and maintenance while my BOAT is being used.?
We ask that your BOAT is supplied to the production with a full tank of petrol, once they have finished, they must fill your BOAT back up. This will mean that they pay for any petrol they use. In cases where BOATS are being used for an extended period and maintained is required, this is paid for by the production company.
What happens if my BOAT gets damaged?
VSB will NOT permit a production company to hire your BOAT without proper insurance. If in the very off chance your BOAT is damaged or written off while in the production company’s care your BOAT will be professionally repaired or replaced.
What happens if my BOAT need repairs?
If your BOAT has an existing problem, damage or defect that will not be repaired unless specified by the production company before the hiring. If the BOAT needs repairs during or after the hire due to misuse by the production company they will pay.
What if my BOAT is stolen?
Very, very unlikely but if it were to happen then the production companies insurance would cover the replacement cost. BOATs are kept secure when not in use.
What sort of care do they take?
Production companies understand that you BOAT is your pride and joy. They will do everything they can to make sure it is VERY well looked after. Including hiring professional boat handlers and security where required.
Who looks after my BOAT?
A boat co-ordinator is on location at all productions where the BOAT is driven or is in a scene where a BOAT is driven. Their job is to look after your BOAT.
How does VSB make sure the people who hire my BOAT are genuine?
VSB has worked with many production companies and we trust the ones we have worked with in the past. Any new enquires will be checked carefully before any booking is considered. Checks will include references, previous clients and industry searches. VSB will make sure no ‘joy riders’ are booking your BOAT.
Will my details be displayed in the catalogue?
The catalogue will feature photos of your BOAT, a basic location (eg- Sydney North), make, model and any hiring guidelines you specify. None of your personal details will be listed.
Will my personal details be safe?
VSB has a very solid policy on privacy of our members and and their BOATs. NO INFORMATION WILL BE GIVEN TO OR ON SOLD TO THIRD PARTIES. No private information will be accessible to the general public. Information regarding your BOAT and you are stored in a secure area separate from our offices. This is done so that visitors and potential thieves will not be able to find or access your information. No personal information is stored online.
My BOAT is far from perfect condition, does that matter?
No, often producers aren’t looking for “as new or better” BOATs. They may just be looking for a BOAT from a certain era or style. They may also be looking for the ‘used’ look. If your BOAT is in perfect condition this can work in your favor too! Either way your BOAT could be the one producers are looking for.
Does my BOAT need to be registered?
It will only be an issue if the BOAT is to be driven. In a case where the boat is a 'still prop' it is not an issue.
Who pays for transport or driving of my BOAT to a location?
If the production is near (under 100km) to where your BOAT is kept then you will be required to deliver it to the specified site. If there is more distance involved the production company will cover costs of transportation or extra driving.
Does it cost money to join VANTAGE STAR BOATS?
We do charge a small one off fee of $25 per BOAT that is signed on. This fee goes towards us making YOUR BOAT'S VERY OWN WEBPAGE and us regularly marketing your BOAT to ALL major film makers, production companies, advertisers and magazines for years to come. (If you have more than one of your own BOATs you want to sign on we offer a discount). Your one off sign on fee covers your listing for as long as you want your boat listed with VSB.
Can I withdraw my BOAT from VSB?
Sure, if you no longer want your BOAT listed we will take if of the catalogue. Unfortunately we do not give refunds.
Is my membership to VSB transferable?
Yes, you can either change your membership to another BOAT or it can be passed on to new owners if you sell your BOAT. A small fee applies for changing your membership to a new BOAT, this will cover the cost of redoing our catalogue and your BOATs webpage.
What if I modify my BOAT, can I send new details and pics?
Yes, please do. We need our pictures to be up to date. If changes are very often we may need to charge a small fee for the cost of redoing our catalogue and your BOATs webpage.
What do you need from me to sign my BOAT up?
You will need to supply us with at least 4 photos of your BOAT. Photos should be no wider than 30cm. Ideally we need photos form the front angle, back angle, interior and side view. See examples below- (we need the photos to be at least three times the size of these ones!)-  
 
You will also need a STAR BOATS DETAILS FORM from us. Send us an email by clicking on the button below or giving the office a call during office hours - 02 9913 9596 to request a Star Boats Details Form.
Note - if you have webmail (eg hotmail or yahoo) you will need to copy starboats(at)vantagemanagement.com.au into the address section of your email, replace (at) with @.
